The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Are you an experienced registered nurse or registered health care professional seeking a leadership opportunity in the exciting field of clinical research delivery?
Following a successful bid to the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), Newcastle Hospitals have secured funding as part of a £100m national investment to give more people the opportunity to take part in clinical trials.
Based within the Royal Victoria Infirmary, the NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) will act as a regional hub for pioneering clinical trials. The CRDC will support a network of researchers in hospitals and GP practices across the region, delivering trials for a range of health conditions.
We are seeking a passionate, motivated and dynamic leader to fulfil the role of Senior Research Sister/Charge Nurse. The successful applicant will be a key stakeholder in the CRDC multi-disciplinary leadership team and will be responsible for providing clinical oversight and management of the research delivery staff in this new and innovative team.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to appoint an individual with a proven track record of management and leadership, excellent communication, organisational, time management and IT skills, broad clinical knowledge, the ability to multi-task, research experience, and meticulous attention to detail.
The successful applicant will be welcomed into this small, friendly team and will be required to lead proactively and cohesively with all relevant stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the CRDC study portfolio and objectives.
Job responsibilities
This rare leadership opportunity will be pivotal in the success of the CRDC and the planned delivery of studies across the region using a hub and spoke model. The Newcastle CRDC will facilitate research delivery in the hub at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Research Unit and also into the spokes which include both primary and secondary care site partners spanning the full geography of the North East and North Cumbria.
The CRDC will identify and prioritise research that can be delivered via this model with the ambition of creating a team that can collaborate to provide an agile service that enables participants to take part in research in the place that is most appropriate for them. The research delivered will be diverse and will focus upon most major medical and surgical specialties, with a special focus on research into treatments for chronic conditions that affect our regional population such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disease.
