The Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and the Directors of Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust invite applications for this position, to commence September 2025.
Due to the promotion of our current Deputy Headteacher applications are invited from practising and committed Catholic leaders for the post of Deputy Headteacher of English Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join English Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School as Deputy Headteacher. This is a non-class based role that will also provide further leadership development opportunities for the successful candidate who will be required to deputise for the Headteacher when they are undertaking their wider duties as Director of Primary Support within Bishop Bewick’s central team. (This is currently a 3-day secondment.)
English Martyrs’ Catholic Primary is a highly respected, oversubscribed two-form entry Catholic school situated in the West End of Newcastle which includes a 12 place Additional Resource Provision (ARP) for pupils with communication and interaction needs.
English Martyrs is a very diverse catholic community where the messages of the Gospel are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that each person is made in the image and likeness of God and therefore we value and respect each member of our school community as the unique individual that they are.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Senior Leadership Team of a dynamic, diverse, ambitious and caring school. As a result, we wish to appoint an enthusiastic, committed, excellent leader who has a passion for teaching and learning, is an outstanding teacher, who has high expectations for pupils’ achievement and behaviour and will be committed to the school’s mission, and values.
The Deputy Head will work closely with the Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher, working across a full range of operational and strategic matters and encourage, challenge and inspire staff to achieve the best outcomes for our pupils.
The successful candidate should have a passion for pastoral care and positive wellbeing, a commitment to ensuring our curriculum provides memorable learning experiences, curriculum vision and an understanding of the importance of Catholic leadership. This is a highly visible position, and the successful candidate will play an active role in our school’s journey of excellence.
We welcome applications from those with experience of deputy headship ready for the challenges of senior leadership opportunities in a large primary school.
There will be opportunities for prospective applicants to visit the school. Interested candidates should contact our School Business Manager, Mrs Julie Kenny to arrange a visit.
Application forms and further information are available by following the link on our website to our online recruitment portal for submission by 9.00am on 11 April 2025.
Interviews will be held on Friday 9th May 2025.
