We have a fantastic opportunity for an Employment Solicitor to join our Legal Services Department, based at our Head Office in Deeside. SUMMARY OF ROLE: To provide employment law advice and support to Iceland and its group / affiliated businesses, in particular: Handling Employment Tribunal litigation (this will form the largest part of the work). Transactional/project support. Ad hoc advisory work on the full range of employment matters. The Employment Solicitor will report to, and work alongside, a Senior Employment Solicitor and will sit within the wider Legal Services Department, which comprises 30 people. This is a fast-paced and varied role, in an entrepreneurial company, with international reach, so candidates will require confidence, the ability to think on their feet, and strong communication skills. This is a fantastic opportunity for a solicitor to work in a supportive team which values training very highly, with the variety and quality of work that you would expect in a large firm. Applications are welcome from candidates currently working in-house or those in private practice with a genuine desire to move in-house. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Acting as a trusted adviser to the business on employment law matters. Ability to handle his/her own case load with a degree of autonomy (although supervision will be provided) and good time management skills. Ability to work as a team player in a strong team environment. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Strong commercial awareness. The ability to think strategically. Excellent attention to detail. The ability to prioritise multiple tasks and complete work to tight deadlines, when required. The ability to build a rapport/communicate well with other departments in the business, and other affiliates of the business. Strong computer skills and experience in using MS Office tools (in particular Word and Outlook). QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: Experience in employment law (particularly in managing a caseload of Employment Tribunal matters) is essential. We would expect the candidate to have worked predominantly in employment law, wholly or mainly on the respondent side. Candidates must be qualified solicitors with at least 5 years PQE in a law firm or in-house department. Ideally, we are looking for candidates with 5-8 years PQE. Please note our advertisements use PQE levels purely as a guide to the minimum level of experience that we consider is required. However, we are happy to consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary to fulfil this kind of work.
