An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time Maritime Assistant to assist with the running of Penzance Harbour. This is a busy harbour with a varied mix of commercial fishing, passenger boat and leisure activity.
This role, under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Maritime Assistant and Harbour Master, will be responsible for the efficient and effective administration, operation and control of the Harbour, including general maintenance, managing moorings, collection of harbour dues, and acting as a point of contact for harbour users.
Due to the seasonal nature of this role, the post holder will be required to assist with providing 7-day cover during the summer season and will therefore be required to work weekends from April to the end of September on a rota basis. A maximum of 5 working days each week is expected, with some flexibility to meet the needs of the service. On occasions, this role will also need to provide cover for the tidal watches.
The main base will be Penzance Harbour, but during the winter months, you may be required to assist with work at any of the municipal ports and harbours within Cornwall.
This is an interesting and varied post, and we are looking for an enthusiastic person who can show a genuine interest in working within a marine environment. You should have some prior experience of working within the maritime industry, including marine maintenance, excellent customer care skills, and the ability to work on your own initiative.
If you would like an informal discussion regarding this post, please email us at harbouroffice@cornwall.gov.uk with your contact details and one of the Maritime Team will be in touch.
