To support the day-to-day administration of the Mental Health Act 1983 for patients detained in Wotton Lawn and subject to Community Treatment Orders in the Forest of Dean, Gloucester and Stroud localities, so that patients are detained lawfully and can exercise their legal rights. Work with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, advocates, solicitors and the First-tier Tribunal to ensure that the Mental Health Act is complied with. This includes: ensuring that legal documentation is correct and complete informing patients and nearest relatives of their rights setting up Mental Health Act managers' hearings liaising with the First-tier Tribunal to arrange hearings. This requires attention to detail, effective communication and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines and to multi-task. We are a small, friendly and hardworking team based at Wotton Lawn and Charlton Lane Hospitals. We enjoy the challenge of supporting patients subject to the Mental Health Act and helping clinicians to comply with their legal responsibilities. We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a divers e range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity and provides a sense of belonging and trust. The annual NHS S taff S urvey gi ves our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust. For the 2023 survey just over 2800 colleagues g ave us their views (58.5%). It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that: 89.7% believe they are making a positive difference to patients/service users; 73.3% would recommend the organisation as a place to work; 82.4% agree that care of patients and service users is the organisations priority; 76.7% would be happy with the standard of care for a friend or relative Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work. Administration In the absence of the Head of MHA Administration and Senior MHA Administrator, work unsupervised, seeking advice from colleagues on other sites when necessary. Ability to work flexibly across and drive to different sites, if required to provide cross cover and support the Head and Deputy Head of MHA Administration Services. Record all changes in MHA status on RiO and in the register and confirm them that in writing to the patient and nearest relative, if appropriate. Update spreadsheets recording Tribunals, Mental Health Act Managers’ hearings and second opinion appointed doctor (SOAD) requests. Ensure that MHA information on RiO is correct and up-to-date. Contribute to any discussions and projects to update/replace RiO, so that an updated/new system is fully compliant with the MHA. When a fresh detention starts, either create a new MHA file or, if the patient has a MHA history, update an existing one. New detentions Arrange timely administrative scrutiny of all approved mental health practitioner (AMHP) applications for detention and supporting medical recommendations, identifying any errors or defects which could invalidate the detention, and arrange for authors to rectify the document in line within the 14-day period stipulated by section 15. Arrange for an appropriate Consultant Psychiatrist to complete a medical scrutiny of all medical recommendations, so that authors rectify the document in line within the 14-day period stipulated by section 15. Update section 117 eligibility to free aftercare for qualifying sections on RiO.
