The Nuclear Medicine & PET-CT Department is a highly specialized and dynamic unit, employing over 20 staff with an annual budget exceeding £2.5 million. The department offers advanced services, including SPECT-CT, Bone Densitometry, PET-CT, non-imaging tests, and a Theranostic Centre of Excellence with inpatient facilities. It is committed to clinical research and development.
In this role, the post holder will work independently, yet under the guidance of Lead Clinical Technologists and the Chief Technologist, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images for Nuclear Medicine, PET-CT, and DXA investigations. The successful candidate will adapt and manipulate protocols to meet clinical needs, demonstrating a deep understanding of standard operating procedures.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities: This summary outlines the key responsibilities expected at the Band 6 grade, which involve routine and non-routine procedures.
* Perform all diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures, including SPECT-CT, PET-CT, and DEXA, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and yourself in line with Health & Safety protocols.
* Administer intravenous radiopharmaceuticals and drugs for diagnostic purposes, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
* Respond to scheduling requests from patients and referrers, ensuring that all nuclear medicine studies align with departmental protocols.
* Assess and evaluate patient and referrer needs, collaborating with clinicians to tailor procedures and meet individual patient requirements.
* Obtain patient consent, confirm patient identification, and gather all relevant clinical details before imaging, in compliance with Trust policies and professional regulations.
* Collaborate with clinical scientists to ensure the timely processing and readiness of diagnostic images.
* Maintain safe working practices when handling radioactive materials, blood samples, and hazardous waste, adhering to government legislation and departmental policies.
* Proactively report and respond to both potential and actual incidents, ensuring that corrective actions are taken.
* Ensure the acquisition of high-quality diagnostic images, applying appropriate image processing techniques to achieve optimal results while maintaining clinical accuracy.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential
* BSc in Radiography/ Nuclear Medicine or equivalent radiographer
* Previous experience of working/training in a nuclear medicine department and competent in all aspects of imaging and non-imaging general nuclear medicine investigations.
Desirable
* Registration with IPEM RCT, AHCS or HCPC and professional accreditation.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* Understanding of multimodality (SPECT-CT or PET-CT) imaging.
* Competent in all data acquisition and analysis for General Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT procedures.
Desirable
* Highly developed manual dexterity while maintaining accuracy and speed in order to administer radiopharmaceuticals (e.g. inhalation by gas, IV and IM injection)
Skills and Competencies
Essential
* Interpret and follow relevant legislation and other guidelines including IRR, IR(M)ER.
* Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
* Good timekeeper with an adaptable and flexible approach to work load requirements
