Job Summary

Do you have excellent communication skills with a passion for building effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders?
If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join the Food Standards Agency (FSA) as a Science Project Manager, and we’d love to hear from you!
The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1600 people. We play a critical role in protecting public health and consumers’ wider interests in food across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our vision is an important one - to drive change, delivering “food you can trust” and working towards a healthier and more sustainable food system.
Job Description
Food safety is essential to food security. With an estimated 18m cases of infectious intestinal disease every year in the UK, the food supply chain and wider environment provide the most significant routes of transmission to humans, especially as many of the key pathogens are zoonotic and originating from livestock. Foodborne pathogens also carry AMR and pose a major risk of spread from animals to humans. Despite this, the UK’s investment in food surveillance is limited and fragmented.
Building on existing infrastructure and prior investment, the FSA aim to bridge the gap between animal and human health and join-up industry and government via a programme of Biosurveillance activities. By building on the successes of previous programmes, and utilising an established Biosurveillance partnership, we can provide an efficient mechanism for the rapid delivery of innovative activities to increase food security.
Science is at the heart of all FSA activities. Reporting to the Grade 7 Biosurveillance Team Lead, this role will be responsible for managing governance, ensuring deliverables are met and preparing project updates to the G6 Head of Surveillance.
