Having welcomed over 9 million visitors since opening in July 2002, Baltic presents a distinctive and ambitious programme and is a world leader in the presentation and commissioning of temporary contemporary visual art exhibitions. Housed in a landmark ex-industrial building, Baltic houses 2,600 square metres of art space, making it one of Europe’s largest dedicated contemporary art institutions. Baltic has presented the work of over 460 artists of 60 nationalities in 220 exhibitions to date. Baltic is supported by Arts Council England, Gateshead Council and Northumbria University. Baltic group incorporates two organisations: Baltic Flour Mills Visual Arts Trust (limited company and registered charity) and its trading subsidiary Baltic Contemporary Visual Arts Trading Limited. The trading arm manages the earned income through a Shop, event/venue hires, commercial events, and sponsorship activity. Baltic now generates income of £6m per year and has seen some fast-paced growth and change within the past few years with focused growth on generation of unrestricted income to protect the sustainability of the charity as well as investment in IT to migrate to online databases. The trading side has seen particular growth and diversification with Baltic staff now internally running the shop and the Ground Floor cafe in the building. The next few years will see additional change and the Head of Finance will be instrumental in supporting the Director of Public Value and Enterprise as well as the CEO and Board in maintaining well established financial practice, accurate management account reporting and cash flow forecasting and contribute to implementing new data dashboards for key decision makers across the group. Job Purpose The Head of Finance will lead the finance team on reporting and preparing dashboards for senior managers and Board for continual monitoring and review. General Specification The candidate will have relevant Charity experience in a senior finance position having qualified either through experience or formal qualification. The candidate will embrace the culture of the organisation and be willing to pick up ad hoc tasks and challenges as required. They will be responsible for nurturing a small team of processors providing them with strong support and management. They will be able to communicate well with senior leadership teams who have less finance knowledge to produce sound management accounts and forecasting. The role reports to the Director of Enterprise & Public Value and supports them in making strategic decisions. The role is also hands on and the candidate will need to undertake thorough management account review and scrutiny.
