An exciting opportunity to join the busy Aseptic Services Department has arisen at Cheltenham General Hospital. This post is based at Cheltenham General Hospital. As part of the 3 Counties Cancer Network (3 CCN), our aseptic services unit prepares chemotherapy for patients from Gloucestershire and the surrounding area. We require an experienced pharmacy assistant to join our production team.
Duties include compounding of aseptic drugs, mainly chemotherapy, preparation of worksheets, labelling of aseptic pharmaceutical products, and assisting the technicians in the clean room.
The post holder needs to have obtained or be working towards a Science Manufacturing Process Operative or nationally recognised equivalent.
Main duties of the job
1. To participate as an aseptic operative in the provision of a safe, efficient, and timely aseptic production service.
2. To ensure that the service complies with all relevant legislation, good practice, and quality standards.
3. To assist in the training of new staff members, and to provide ongoing support and training to all staff.

Job responsibilities
1. To receive cytotoxic prescriptions and help to coordinate workload outside the clean room involving communication with clinical oncology pharmacy and nursing staff in chemotherapy clinic.
2. Timely provision of patient treatment through prioritisation.
3. To generate worksheets & labels and assemble raw materials for all aseptically prepared products.
4. Providing additional checks on syringe volumes for aseptic products.
5. Aseptic preparation of chemotherapy drugs as specified and signed off as competent.
6. Perform volume checks on syringes.
7. To ensure that all areas of the aseptic unit are of an appropriate standard of cleanliness.
8. Comply with GMP.
9. To complete in-house competency training.
10. To perform the clean in the unit for the cleaning of isolators, using specialist equipment, in accordance with set procedures.
11. To perform pressure decay tests when required for all isolators.
12. To introduce the skills and knowledge relevant to a pharmacy assistant to new staff including student technicians when they first arrive within the manufacturing unit.
13. Occasional communication with doctors (of all grades), nursing staff, and support workers and members of the public to provide factual information and receive messages from them relating to pharmacy manufacturing.
14. Stock control.
15. Administrative and clerical duties including:
1. Daily data entry to produce worksheets, labels, and batch details for the department.
2. Use of Emis system.
3. Photocopying.
16. To accurately follow the department's standard operating procedures on a daily basis.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Achieved Science Manufacturing Process Operative Level 2 or equivalent.
* Experience of working in a Pharmacy Aseptic Unit. Qualified to compound aseptic products.
* Achieved a grade C or equivalent in GCSE Maths and English.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
* Be aware of the importance of our service to patients.
* Good communication skills, both written and oral. Communicate well with all grades of staff.
* Attention to detail and accuracy, and to concentrate for long periods.
* Ability to work within a team and under supervision.
* Comply with GMP.
* Able to prioritise work.
* Be flexible and reliable.
* Knowledge of computers including Emis.
* Previous experience of ordering stock via Quantum and Bathasu.
