About the role
Electronic Modular Services(EMS) now has an opportunity for a Software / Firmware Engineer in our state of the art Engineering facility Herne Bay, Kent. The main responsibility in this role is to design software and firmware to support the businesses development of a range of life safety products.
A business division within a larger organization, EMS main area of expertise is in the development of wire free radio linked safety systems. Core products include wireless fire detection and evacuation devices; smoke and heat detectors, sounders, fire panels, wireless networking of control systems, associated desktop configuration tools and cloud based services.
You will be part of an international team with a diverse family of products, brands and services that already has a significant impact on the safety of people around the world.
Working with us will allow you to participate in every aspect of product development – technology research, product innovation, system analysis, defining architecture, code creation, system qualification and cooperation with test laboratories to deliver and shape the life safety systems of the future.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Software / Firmware Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:
1. Development of software and architecture for new and existing embedded systems.
2. Development of support and configuration tools for desktop and/or web deployment.
3. Participation in conceptual work, technology analysis and product definition.
4. Collaboration with a team of analysts, test engineers, and HW engineers as part of a focused project team.
5. Use of tools for ensuring quality and control of work in the entire continuous integration – continuous deployment (CICD) pipeline.
6. Conduct peer code reviews and unit testing to ensure coding quality and reliability standards are met.
Requirements
As a minimum you must have:
7. Ideally be degree qualified in software development or computer science or equivalent industry experience.
8. Practical experience in C/C++/C# programming languages for both embedded and desktop application development.
9. Strong knowledge of microcontrollers and ideally experience of STM, TI and Renesas microcontroller families.
10. Familiarity with debugging and version control best practices.
11. Good standard of spoken and written English.
12. Have basic knowledge of hardware and general electronics.
Skills that are welcome:
13. Knowledge of radio systems and radio communication protocols.
14. Experience in developing Real Time embedded devices.
15. Experience in low power consumption / battery powered product designs.
16. Familiarity with issue tracking / task scheduling tools and software.
