Innovation & Simulation Manager - TMS at Bucher Municipal
Overall purpose of the position
* This role involves researching the application of AI, ML / DL techniques to help achieve the goals of the company. Specifically, working on the Smart Sweeping project to develop computer vision and associated control systems.
* Supported by the Technical Lead Machine Learning Engineer, the Innovation & Simulation Manager, and Systems Engineering Manager, this role involves all matters related to the implementation of systems that can automate the sweeping functions of a truck-mounted sweeper from the Bucher Municipal range of road sweeping machines.
* This role has the responsibility of assisting in software design for the automation of functions, liaising with the systems engineering team to develop communication over a company-specific CAN Open implementation to a new schema of messages.
* They will need to ensure that any control software is fully tested and approved, meeting relevant standards using a defined release process, and that software release schedules are clearly defined internally and externally to Engineering.
* The role may involve collaborating with Mechatronic Engineers to develop control software and system models of the machine using 1D simulation tools, such as Amesim & Altair Activate.
The usual application is to commercial vehicles, focusing on improvements to existing designs on truck-mounted vehicles which range from 7.5 to >26 tonnes laden.
Qualifications / Skills
* Studying for an AI / ML / Computer Studies / engineering degree.
* Knowledge of computer vision techniques.
* Proficient in Python.
* Knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
* Knowledge of containerization approaches – Docker, etc.
* Knowledge of Linux systems.
* Interest in control systems.
* Knowledge of automotive electrics and electronics preferred.
* Knowledge of mobile hydraulics and pneumatics preferred.
* Candidate should possess drive, energy, determination, and commitment, with the ability to coordinate multi-task projects, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines.
* Candidate should have the ability to work within a multi-disciplined team.
Main Duties
* Creation of CNN & deep learning systems.
* Testing & validation of the software on the bench and on a real-world prototype vehicle.
* Creation of code and systems to operate on a microcomputer platform.
* Ensure that the software written is compatible with our progress toward smart products connected by telematics to enhance the product and service offering of the company.
* To liaise regularly and effectively with other members of the Engineering team to ensure a cohesive overall design.
* Any other duties which may reasonably be required.
* Contribute to maintaining a high level of housekeeping and attention to health and safety issues to create a healthy and safe working environment.
