MLK Search is pleased to be supporting this unique, co-educational school for young people aged 11-18 who have found previous schools overwhelming, and thrive in a smaller, more nurturing and therapeutic environment.
This is a small school with big ambitions, a truly caring and collaborative culture, and eyes only on the education of the young people who require an alternative environment due in heir mental health and social challenges.
With class sizes limited to 8 and a maximum capacity of up to 70 students, this is a calm, flexible and supportive learning environment where students can study at their own pace.
Each student has an additional need associated with social, emotional, and mental health. Most have an EHCP, generally related to self-exclusion, anxiety, depression, or self-harm, and require a calm environment in which to learn, as opposed to behaviours that challenge or school exclusions.
The school maintains an academic approach that operates a High School model, accessing GCSEs and providing a BTEC option in Food Technology. Combined with therapeutic interventions anxieties are minimised, encouraging students to develop healthy, positive relationships.
Due to a restructure, there has arisen the need for additional capacity within the Senior Leadership Team for an Assistant Headteacher and SENCO to ensure the school remains an innovative and leading therapeutic provider.
The successful applicant will be an experienced and inspiring leader who is truly dedicated and passionate about SEN/SEMH education. You will have a strong background within therapeutic SEN education, a deep understanding of neurodiversity and experience working with children and their families navigating challenges related to SEMH.
Alongside the Headteacher, SLT and therapy team, you will • Lead and evaluate the strategic development of the SEN and therapeutic provision to meet ever changing need. • Provide professional guidance and support to colleagues and liaise and work collaboratively with staff, parents, and other agencies to ensure that pupils receive appropriate support and the highest quality of teaching and learning. • Act as the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
If you consider yourself to be an innovative leader and passionate advocate for educating those with specialist and additional needs, please apply now!
