An innovative software company based in Edinburgh City Centre, developing cutting-edge platforms to transform the way complex data is explored and understood, is seeking a Manual Software Tester to join their growing team to ensure the product meets the highest quality standards.
The company is at an exciting phase in its journey - having rebooted their application last year they are now focusing on getting the product features complete. It's still in early stages, and the team is working hard behind the scenes to address some important architectural changes and prepare for internal demos later this year.
If you're passionate about working in a fast-paced, agile environment and thrive on working independently, this could be the perfect role for you. You'll have the opportunity to shape the testing process from scratch, influence the product, and help steer it toward a successful release.
The Role
In this Manual Software Tester role, you'll be critical in ensuring the quality of the product at every stage. Initially, your focus will be on creating a comprehensive test plan to validate the app in its current state and ensure a stable foundation for future development. As more features are added, the complexity of the application will grow, and your testing strategy will evolve accordingly.
You'll collaborate closely with developers, stakeholders, and the CEO to ensure the app works as intended and meets the highest standards. The role requires you to balance the need for new features with bug fixing, knowing that not every bug can be addressed immediately. Strong communication will be key as you'll be the bridge between the development team and the CEO, understanding their vision for the product and adapting your approach accordingly.
While this role is primarily manual testing, experience or interest in automation is a bonus - especially with tools like Playwright. The team is already using some automated tests, and the opportunity to improve and expand automation efforts will be available once the manual testing foundation is in place.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Proven experience in manual and exploratory testing of web applications
Strong ability to define and implement test strategies independently, taking full ownership
Experience working in small, agile teams where autonomy is key
Ability to manage priorities and understand that not every bug can be fixed immediately
Excellent communication skills to translate technical issues for diverse audiences
A genuine passion for technology and excitement about working on a groundbreaking product
Experience with web technologies such as TypeScript, WebGL/WebGPU, or a background in game/graphics testing would be highly desirable
Why Apply?
In return, you'll receive a competitive salary of £40,000 - £50,000, with the potential for flexibility based on experience. There is also the possibility to go beyond this for an exceptional candidate. The benefits package includes:
Flexible working with a hybrid model (set office days and work-from-home options)
Generous holiday allowance of 34 days (including flexible public holidays)
Annual personal development budget for training, conferences, and learning opportunities
International travel opportunities to visit the company's HQ
A forward-thinking, supportive culture where you can truly make an impact
This is a rare opportunity to work on an exciting, innovative product in the early stages, where you'll have a real impact on shaping its success. The company values individuals who are passionate about the product and eager to make their mark in a collaborative, hands-on environment.
