Job summary The Cellular Pathology Operational Lead Scientist manages a comprehensive range of scientific services within histopathology and diagnostic cytology, liaising with the Cellular Pathology Lead Scientist (Service Lead), quality team and consultants as required. They lead the Cellular Pathology service and have responsibility for the operational service delivery and regulatory compliance in histopathology and diagnostic cytology. Main duties of the job To routinely manage and lead on the work of the Cellular Pathology services within NWAFT, processing and analysing samples in accordance with agreed standards as set by Pathology Accreditation (UKAS) and HTA under the strategic direction of the Cellular Pathology Lead Scientist. To manage staff and other resources within cellular pathology, participating in and having responsibility for the highly specialist, diagnostic technical service delivery. To liaise with hospital clinicians, general practitioners, other health care professionals, other Trust departments, external agencies, suppliers, and their agents and occasionally patients and their representatives. To liaise with the Cellular Pathology Lead Scientist in the overall management of the department to deliver of a timely and responsive diagnostic service to patients. The post holder will also deputise for the Cellular Pathology Lead Scientist in their absence (incl. support for the Mortuary, Medical Examiner Office and Administrative services). To supervise and process work as an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology, maintaining professional competence to provide an expert diagnostic and support service to the service users and patients of NWAFT. To participate in the Pathology Manager On-call (OOH) and Duty Manager (daytime) rotas. To participate in FISS manager rota as required.
