Townley Grammar School is an academically selective and socially responsible girls’ state grammar school with a coeducational Sixth Form. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, ambitious and inspirational Head of/ Teacher of Computer Science. The successful candidate will have expert subject knowledge and must be able to teach all Key Stages, including GCSE and A Level. We are looking for a forward thinking, inspirational practitioner to work collaboratively with colleagues, delivering outstanding lessons and supporting in the development of our curriculum and exciting co-curricular offer. Committed to closing the gender gap in STEM, we are very proud that our Computer Science students challenge national trends; at present we have over 160 students in year 10 and 11 and 68 students studying at Sixth Form. Computer Science is taught as an explicit subject from Year 7 and is offered at both GCSE and Advanced Level. At Key Stage 3, all students have one lesson a week of Computer Science. The Computer Science department is a hub of activity, offering students numerous opportunities beyond the curriculum. These include the MicroBit Club, Esports Club, 3D Animation Club, Code Club, and the CS Society for Sixth Form students. Additionally, students take part in visits to Bletchley Park and Silicon Valley and actively participate in a wide range of competitions. Through the introduction of new Key Stage 4 Advantage Curriculum, students also have the opportunity to select subjects which include AI for All, Code and Create, Digital futures, Esports and the STEM Crest award.
The post holder will be required to complete an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) Check with appropriate barred list checks, or the equivalent, and must be eligible to work in the UK. All staff are expected to be committed to the Equal Opportunities Policy.
