An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Therapy Services Directorate Manager within Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.
The post holder will assist in the strategic development of therapy services within Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust and work closely with partners across the wider health economy to ensure a seamless patient journey.
Please note, this recruitment process will include an assessment centre which will be held on Thursday 17th October 2024.
· The post holder will be responsible for the management, delivery, and performance of a high-quality Therapy Service forMersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. The post holder will be responsible for financial and business management, implementation of policies and service changes and quality performance of the service. The post holder will have the focus of leading on Therapy services Quality and Governance, providing support to the Therapy Services Directorate Manager Finance and Performance lead.
Responsibilities include:
• Line management of therapy operational managers/clinical therapy managers including staffing resources for Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Speech & Language Therapists, Therapy Assistants and Therapy Administration
• Effective resource management to meet service demands
• Assisting in strategic development of therapy services in collaboration with the local health economy
• Leading therapy contributions to ensure all access, quality and performance targets are achieved
• Supporting the provision of cost and quality improvement programmes within therapy services and impacted by therapy services

Acute Care
Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.
Community Services
Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

· KEY DUTIES
Service Delivery
· Responsible for Therapy Service delivery within MWL.
· Ensure all Quality targets are met and direct the implementation of Local, Regional and National advice, guidance, and legislation within the Department.
· Consult regularly with the Directorate Managers of various Care Groups and keep Management Team informed on all matters which affect the efficient running of the Department.
· Support and lead on specific Therapy project groups to support the Management Team to deliver the objectives specified within the Therapy Strategic Plan. To participate in Trust working groups and committees as required.
· Deputise for the Therapy Manager as required.
· Facilitate project management to ensure timely delivery of new or reconfigured services.
· Support the Therapy Manager and the Directorate Management Team to ensure the strategic development of Therapy services within the MWL.
· In consultation with the Therapy Management Team, support and contribute to the production of the Therapy Local Delivery Plan and from this implement Team Operational Plans to ensure achievement of the Trusts and Therapies objectives.
· Support the customer care strategy of the CSS Directorate through participation in the organisation of open days and presentations to educational and other professional establishments.
· Manage the delivery of the Department Annual Management Review.
· Identify areas for improving Therapy Services, and evaluate options, to ensure appropriate consultation with relevant staff regarding planning and development of services.
· Responsible, in conjunction with the Head of Complaints Department, for the management and effective resolution of complaints.
· Support the Trust on call rota.
Policies and Procedures
· Ensure the development, dissemination, implementation of and adherence to Trust and Departmental policies, procedures, codes of practice and national guidelines.
· Responsible for the management of all aspects of the Department, authorising departmental policies and procedures using national guidelines/recommendations from appropriate bodies, deciding the best way to interpret and implement. Organisational policies will be interpreted and implemented as appropriate in conjunction with other members of the Therapy Management Team.
· Develop and direct the implementation of operational policies and ensure compliance with SOPs in order to ensure best practice and quality of the test result.
· Ensure all departmental policies and procedures are kept up to date in line with the requirements of the Trust’s standards.
Clinical Governance and Quality
· Monitor, maintain and improve service delivery to satisfy user needs and to ensure compliance with quality standards.
· Lead on Governance within therapies and support Clinical Governance initiatives in all areas of the Trust including clinical audit, care pathways, implementation of NICE guidelines, developing capability around audit and effectiveness, supporting the Trust research and development function, and creating links between Departments.
· Support the departmental participation in all relevant External Quality Assurance Schemes. Review and enact any performance criteria flagged by External Quality Assurance schemes.
· Responsible for the performance internal Quality Control within the department.
· Liaise with the Directorate Quality Manager on all quality issues.
Health and Safety
· Manage the implementation of Local and National Health and Safety policies and procedures.
· Develop and ensure the implementation of agreed directorate Health and Safety policies and procedures.
· Initiate and annually review Risk assessments and as a result develop, implement and monitor safe systems of work.
· Direct the provision of information, instruction, and training as is necessary to ensure the health and safety of staff including induction/mandatory/professional/refresher – as relevant to the duties to be undertaken, including any change of working environment, or new or changed risks.
· Manage the review, audit and monitoring of all health and safety arrangements within the Department and take the necessary action to rectify any deficiencies identified.
· Lead the investigation and implementation of necessary changes resulting from any changes in health and safety systems or documentation in line Trust policies and procedures.
· Attend training provided for health and safety purposes as required.
· Liaise with internal and external safety officers and safety representatives and be responsible for implementing recommendation.
Communication
· Establish and maintain effective two-way communication of information within Therapies, other directorates and with members of the Trust.
· Ensure effective communication for all staff on developments with respect to organisational and professional matters thus supporting therapy strategic management initiatives.
· Prepare and present presentations to the Trust Board as required.
· Interacting with other therapy staff, dealing with telephone queries from medical and nursing staff including hospital and primary care and anxious patients.
· Ensure that therapy staff are informed of and involved in the review of results of both external and internal quality assurance schemes and any action taken in light of the reports.
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintain Professional Registration
· Adhere to relevant Code of Practice of Professional body.
· Responsible for maintaining and monitoring satisfactory performance.
· Monitor referral to treatment time and outpatient waiting times.
· Maintain a current knowledge and awareness of current developments and practice relevant to the disciplines encompassed by Therapies.
· Maintain a personal CPD portfolio.
