Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Manager A leading international retailer enjoying record breaking growth in the FMCG sector is seeking a MHE Leader to join their rapidly expanding team. In short, this is a key ‘pioneer’ role that will have significant influence as part of a major automated distribution facility launch – the first of its kind as part of a UK multi-site, on-going multi-million £ investment programme. Salary: to 48,000 p.a. extensive suite of large company benefits The Role: Supporting a brand-new supply chain and warehousing operation, you will lead and develop a dedicated MHE engineering department (5-6 heads) within one of the most advanced automated Distribution Centres in the UK once launched later in 2025. You will act primarily as a key member of the supervisory / management team supporting this high volume and fast moving operation to achieve high performance SLA’s. Ensure the availability and reliability of operational equipment achieved to the highest degree. Support the implementation of Continuous Improvement opportunities and strive to achieve marginal gains in terms of operating efficiency and performance. Support audits of site performance and challenge current maintenance strategies to ensure optimum value is maintained. Ensure that the highest H&S standards are integrated into maintenance tasks plus the implementation and monitoring of risk assessments and safe systems of work. Manage the maintenance calendar ensuring all MHE maintenance procedures are completed to the highest standards, enabling high performance and reliability of the equipment. Delivering performance KPI’s such as safety compliance, spares management, cost control and maintenance turnaround including maintenance of all documentation relating to MHE maintenance and performance. Identify obsolescence risk and manage total asset lifecycle of equipment, liaising fully with MHE suppliers. Support and co-ordinate the onsite training team by providing technical specific elements of MHE training to frontline colleagues. Develop immediate team via regular reviews, identifying and supporting L&D requirements for direct reports within the team and succession planning for the future. Allocate resources, providing delivery timelines, and managing priorities with the ultimate aim to ensure all operational expectations and daily ordering fulfilment requirements are met. The Person: You will ideally possess a proven background gained in an advanced or high volume Distribution Centre / Warehouse environment with proven experience of managing MHE operations and resources.
