Concrete Coring Driller Location: London/Nationwide Salary: Competitive Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday What you’ll do: Role Purpose The Structural and Pavement Coring Operative is responsible for conducting core drilling on structural elements, pavements, and concrete surfaces as part of geotechnical and structural investigation projects. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The operative will assist with on-site setup, operation, and maintenance of coring equipment while ensuring accurate sample collection and efficient project execution. Key Responsibilities: Core Drilling Operations Perform concrete coring on structural elements, pavements, and other surfaces as per project requirements. Operate and maintain core drilling equipment, including handheld and rig-mounted systems. Ensure coring is performed accurately to obtain undisturbed samples for testing and analysis. Support the installation of testing or monitoring equipment if required (e.g., strain gauges, sensors). Site Preparation & Setup Assist in setting up coring rigs, including alignment, anchoring, and calibration. Ensure the safe and efficient mobilisation of tools and equipment to and from the site. Prepare and mark drilling locations based on project plans and specifications. Conduct basic material checks to identify potential issues before coring. Sample Handling & Documentation Collect and handle concrete and pavement core samples with care to preserve integrity. Accurately label and record sample details, including depth, location, and other relevant data. Support the preparation of field reports and documentation to provide accurate project records. Equipment Maintenance Perform routine maintenance on core drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance. Conduct daily pre-start checks to identify potential faults or safety concerns. Report equipment defects or malfunctions promptly to the supervisor. Maintain a clean and organised workspace, including proper storage of tools and consumables. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. Participate in site-specific risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety briefings. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and ensure its condition is maintained. Identify and report any hazards, incidents, or unsafe practices on-site. Minimise environmental impact by ensuring proper waste disposal and site restoration. Collaboration & Teamwork Work closely with the Coring Supervisor and other team members to ensure seamless project delivery. Provide support to colleagues on tasks such as lifting, positioning equipment, or managing materials. Follow instructions and communicate effectively to address site-specific challenges. What we’re looking for: Essential Skills & Experience Experience operating concrete coring equipment and handling core samples. Knowledge of structural and pavement materials, including concrete and asphalt. Strong understanding of core drilling techniques and equipment safety. Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Basic understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations in construction. Desirable Skills & Experience NVQ Level 2 in Drilling Operations or equivalent qualification. Experience with geotechnical or structural investigations. CSCS card or equivalent site certification. First Aid or relevant safety training certifications. Familiarity with data logging and sample tracking systems.
