It is expected that the successful candidate will spend most clinical time with IBD and NET patients. The candidate will be strongly encouraged to take on one other sub-specialty work from ERC, endometriosis, or pelvic floor. All three services are regional tertiary referrals with dedicated teams and MDTs.
It is expected that the candidate will be part of the on-call general surgery at the AUH site, which is currently covered by the Emergency General Surgery team during the daytime, with specialty consultants contributing to out-of-hours and weekend general surgery cover.
There is also specialized colorectal cover during the daytime at the RLH site. The expected general surgery rota will be 1:20, and the colorectal specialized cover is 1:12. It is expected that this may change at some point in the future (later half of 2022) as the merger progresses. There is a plan to have all acute on-call general surgery at the AUH site with elective cancer surgeries at the Royal site.
