Job overview
We seek an acute general Paediatrician with a special interest in Oncology, to join the team at East Surrey Hospital, a busy secondary care service. The post holder will take on the role of Lead for the POSCU Services with the current Lead stepping down into the Deputy Lead role.
The Trust is currently a designated Level 1 POSCU in the SWSH cancer network and is one of the busiest POSCUs in the region. The service involves inpatient supportive care and outpatient bolus chemotherapy. The departmental oncology activity over the last 5 years shows that, on average, approximately 10 - 20 new oncology cases are diagnosed annually with about 30 cases at any one time on active treatment.
In line with the most recent service specifications for cancer services from NHS England, we are hoping to develop the service into an Enhanced A Level POSCU depending on local factors, regional and national recommendations. This will imply providing the following services in addition to supportive care: Outpatient bolus chemotherapy; Infusional day case chemotherapy; and Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) Maintenance chemotherapy - adjustment of 6-Mercaptopurine and Methotrexate dosing.
