General description:
This is a role for someone with excellent management and editorial skills and commercial awareness, as well as experience in illustrated co-edition publishing. An ability to run an ambitious publishing programme on schedule is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage a publishing list for the adult colour-illustrated gift market in the areas of wellbeing, food, nature, fashion, popular culture and more.
2. Identify new book ideas that align with the gift publishing programme and target audience.
3. Negotiate and process contracts.
4. Process titles from commission to publication, to schedule and within budget.
5. Liaise with all inhouse departments including production, sales, design, legal and marketing and publicity.
6. Collaborate closely with, and brief, authors, illustrators, designers and all freelancers.
7. Maintain a good network of freelance contacts.
8. Stay informed about industry trends, market demands and competitor activity.
9. Identify new opportunities and anticipate changes.
Essential requirements:
1. Experience in publishing into the genres of lifestyle, quote books and gift is ideal, but not essential.
2. Multitasking skills - able to handle multiple titles at once.
3. An excellent understanding of co-ed colour-illustrated publishing.
4. A strong commercial understanding of the gift market.
5. Fluency with basic software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and proficiency in InDesign.
