About Us
Ocado Group is a pioneer in the online grocery market. We have collaborated with some of the most forward-thinking, innovative grocery retailers via our Ocado Solutions business, and have recently launched Ocado Intelligent Automation to bring our advanced warehouse fulfilment solutions to non-grocery players. At the heart of our success lies our technological expertise and unparalleled IP, which is developed by the Ocado Technology business.
Ocado Technology (OT) has undergone significant change in recent years - in terms of the scope of our technology, the size and scale of our international clients, and the number and geographic breadth of our people and development centres. This has presented us with new opportunities, but also new complexities, which increase our need for strategic planning, organisation and communication between the senior team.
About the role
We are seeking a Strategy Manager who thrives in a dynamic environment and is energised by a role that demands flexibility and adaptability to change. The Strategy Team plays a vital role in guiding the future of our technology division. We must evaluate our technologies, operational methodologies, organisational structure, geographic distribution, and internal support activities. This requires a thorough analysis of their relative merits, risks, and opportunities in order to effectively communicate a considered recommendation to senior leaders. Success in this role demands clarity of thought, strong problem-solving skills, and a data-driven analytical approach.
Accountabilities
This role involves working together with the Strategy team across two distinct areas of responsibility:
Strategic Projects & Problem Solving
1. Identify and prioritise problems to solve within Ocado Technology, drawing on a wide and diverse range of sources, including own observations.
2. Develop business cases and/or recommendations on how to solve business problems using a combination of desk-based research, stakeholder consultation, financial modelling and quantitative and qualitative analysis.
3. Project manage strategic projects on behalf of Senior Leadership, often in collaboration with support functions (Finance, HR etc.), from scoping the work through to driving progress and delivery of the project to completion.
4. Present project progress to relevant audiences in structured, coherent, high quality presentations. Example project: ‘Why are international CFCs costing us more to build than UK CFCs?’
Technology Governance and Ways of Working
1. Prepare materials for regular governance meetings, assist in the running of these meetings and continuously improve the working practices of the Senior Leadership Team.
2. Maintain the rhythm and support execution of key business processes throughout the year e.g. annual budget process.
3. Organise and facilitate OT advisory board days, annual Leadership Conference, regular business area away days and other workshops as required.
4. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of various data sources to provide insight to Senior Leadership e.g. monthly management information pack.
5. Collaborate with other support functions to ensure best possible ways of working and processes e.g. Finance and HR teams.
6. Assist Senior Leadership with various ad hoc requests of both a strategic nature (i.e. product planning) and operational nature (i.e. slide creation, board reports, communications etc.).
7. The role also involves supporting the development of other team members.
About you
1. A 2:1 or 1st in any degree from a top university.
2. Proven ability to solve a variety of problems creatively and practically.
3. Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills including Excel or Google Sheets based analysis.
4. Clear and concise communication skills (both written and verbal) with attention to detail.
