Job Profile: ICU Nurse
Location: Scotland
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced ICU Nurse to join our team, specialising in the care of patients with complex respiratory needs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing patients who require advanced respiratory support, including those with tracheostomies, cough assist, suction, PEG feeding, and Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This position will require live-in support for clients for a few weeks at a time in rural Scotland.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct initial assessments of patients requiring critical care, particularly those on invasive mechanical ventilation.
2. Monitor and provide ventilator care while assessing respiratory function to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
3. Provide advanced airway management, including tracheostomy care, ensuring safe and effective respiratory support.
4. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
5. Mobilise care packages in collaboration with registered nurses and community healthcare professionals.
6. Train and oversee care support teams, ensuring they are equipped to deliver high-quality care in accordance with established protocols.
7. Respond promptly to emergencies and changes in patient conditions, demonstrating sound clinical judgement and decision-making.
8. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
9. Provide live-in support for clients, ensuring their needs are met and that they receive continuous care and supervision during the designated period.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.
2. Significant experience in an ICU or critical care setting, with a focus on respiratory support.
3. Proficiency in managing tracheostomy patients and performing suction and cough assist techniques.
4. Experience with PEG feeding and caring for patients with MND is highly desirable.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
6. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with best practices in critical care nursing.
Our team consists of registered nurses and carers with extensive experience in critical care and respiratory support. Following the initial assessment, the care support team will collaborate with community nurses to deliver the care plan effectively. The sign-off process of each support package is expected to occur within the first month, after which the care support team will take over, ensuring continuity and quality of care for our patients.
