ABOUT THE ROLE
The CHIPS Program is a project funded by the Department of Social Services, dedicated to supporting children at risk of developing mental illness. As an Early Intervention service, CHIPS delivers child-centred individual support, group work, and parental support through a multidisciplinary team approach. The program provides intensive, long-term, early intervention support along with short-term, immediate assistance and offers community development and outreach support.
The Child & Mental Health Worker will play a crucial role in providing timely and responsive support to community members seeking early intervention mental health support for children aged 0 to 12 years. Working closely with children, families, schools, and other services, the role focuses on creating a joined-up support system to improve the wellbeing and resilience of children at risk.
Day to day your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
* Provide children’s counselling, therapeutic work, and group support.
* Conduct assessments to identify child and family needs.
* Offer practical assistance for children and families as required.
* Deliver information, guidance, and referrals to relevant services.
* Provide parenting information and support.
* Build and maintain strong service networks and partnerships.
* Facilitate targeted therapeutic groups.
* Contribute to community development initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
* A qualification in Social Work or a related field
* Experience working with children and families in a support or counselling capacity.
* Strong understanding of early intervention mental health strategies
* Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external services.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* A commitment to child safety and wellbeing
