Learning Support Assistant / LSA with strong clear communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment and passion for making a difference to the lives of young people and families is required for a well-established Academy Trust based in Handsworth, Birmingham.
ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE CONSIDERED – TRAINING PROVIDED
The successful candidate would ideally have experience as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant. However, this is not essential as training will be offered for the right candidate.
SALARY: £26,409 FTE / Actual Annual Salary £20,654 (term time only)
LOCATION: Handsworth, Birmingham (B21)
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Contract (This is a temporary contract until June 2026 unless terminated prior to this date on one month’s notice if the student leaves the school due to external funding)
WORKING HOURS: 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.35am to 3.35pm, Term Time Only

Working as a Learning Support Assistant / LSA you will work as part of the SEND team providing high quality in-class support for a student who has complex needs.
As a Learning Support Assistant / LSA your role will involve being a consistent and reliable key person in school for the KS4 student, planning, adapting and delivering support so they are able to access the curriculum.
DUTIES
Some of the key responsibilities as the Learning Support Assistant / LSA will include:
• Act as an advocate for the student and communicate her needs to others on her behalf
• Provide opportunities for guided mentoring support, problem-solving and emotional check-ins throughout the day
• Maintain regular communication with the student’s parents
• Be available to support the student during unstructured times of the day
• Provide support to enable access to clubs or activities. This may include facilitating peer interaction
• Deliver tailored teaching activities to student on either a one-to-one basis or with small groups
• Encourage the student to interact and work collaboratively and co-operatively with peers and staff in and out of the classroom
• Follow guidance co-produced by professionals on how to support the social and emotional development of the student by guiding co-regulation exercises to regulate emotions
• Attend any professional reviews connected with this student
• Organise and support with activities within the categories of the ‘Preparation for Adulthood’ scheme (employability, independent living, community inclusion and health)
• Support the teacher in acting as an advocate for the student and communicate her needs to others on her behalf if needed
• Liaise confidently with teachers and share resources which can be used for pre and post tutoring
• Monitoring and evaluating student responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives
• Help with the planning of some lessons through collaborative working with the teacher
• Engage in ongoing professional development, including specific SEND training, to support the needs of students in school
• Providing objective and accurate feedback and reports as required
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths
• An understanding and commitment to the personal needs of students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities
• Knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Practice
• Safeguarding and Child Protection responsibilities
• Ability to use ICT/the internet and email to support pupils’ learning
• Enhanced DBS Disclosure
• A commitment to and belief in equal opportunities and equal values of all students
• Able to encourage and enable others to fulfil their potential
• Able to work as part of a team
• Able to manage time and resource effectively
• Able to communicate effectively via different mediums with a range of individuals

• Teaching Assistant Qualification is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided for the right candidate
