We are looking for a pro-active, self-motivated, and dynamic Risk Control and Partnering Consultant to join the Retail Risk business function.
Your role will present a great opportunity to work across our Retail Risk function in the Risk Advice team, where you will be an expert helping to ensure we are providing key risk support to risk teams and stakeholders. The role will be critical in enabling compliance to internal policy, risk and controls frameworks which support performance expectations and good customer outcomes, meeting our strategic and operational risk objectives.

You’ll be responsible for managing or supporting our understanding of the risk environment, deepening connections and helping leaders to make informed risk decisions. You’ll also provide insight, manage stakeholder interactions and support wider team priorities by working on or leading projects.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, Dunfermline, London or Northampton offices. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

* Supporting the completion of gap analysis, regulatory information requests and embedding best practice to identify where risks or issues lay across Retail. Often in collaboration with other 1st, 2nd and 3rd line of defence teams.
* Managing and maintaining critical risk data via the risk system ‘MetricStream’.
* You’ll be responsible for creating and managing action plans of areas where improvements are required and keeping relevant stakeholders up to date on progress.
* Providing subject matter expertise to projects, risk partners and stakeholders when queries arise.
* Support with reviews from Audit, Compliance, Chief Controls Office and our regulators and analysing feedback at a process and functional level, articulating findings to stakeholders and managing subsequent actions.
* Being data led and using risk information to decipher problems or provide key insight.
* Working ‘outside the box’ and across Retail with an array of stakeholders to deliver business critical risk activities.

As a minimum you’ll have:

* A logical, inquisitive mind with an interest in regulations, policies and processes with an eye to suggest improvements using your knowledge or experience.
* Strong relationship management and influencing skills, to help build trust and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders across the business and externally.
* A proactive, collaborative and solution-oriented approach.
* Being able to think ahead and take planned action as appropriate.
* Ideally you would hold or be working towards an IRM or equivalent risk qualification.
* Knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management and working use of MetricStream would be an advantage.
Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together. You can strengthen your application by showing the behaviours that resonate with you, and how you might have already demonstrated these.

What makes us different
Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. With over 15 million customers, we have a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population. We’ve got the scale to compete with the big banks, but we’re not a bank.
As a building society, we’re owned by our members – that’s our customers who have their current account, mortgage or savings with us. It means we can do things differently to deliver our Purpose – Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.
When you work at Nationwide, you can experience that difference for yourself. You’ll be part of a high-performing, purpose-driven organisation that offers rewarding career experiences and a highly competitive range of benefits to match. You’ll also be joining us at an important time as we seek to reach more and more people in the UK. We want everyone in the UK to know that they don’t have to bank with a bank. They can choose a modern mutual instead.
