Studio Egret West is looking for a BIM and GIS coordinator to join its practice in London.
About
Studio Egret West is an award-winning multidisciplinary practice of 80 architects, urban designers, landscape architects, graphic designers, model makers and filmmakers working on a range of mixed use, place-making projects, based in Clerkenwell, London.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled BIM and GIS coordinator to support the architectural design and construction of a mixed-use district masterplan, on a 15-month fixed-term contract.
This role involves overseeing the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to ensure accurate, efficient, and innovative design and project delivery. The BIM and GIS coordinator will work closely with the project team, including architects, engineers, contractors, and urban planners, to streamline workflows, improve collaboration, and ensure the successful implementation of both digital and geospatial data.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with large-scale masterplanning teams, particularly within the UK and Middle East (KSA and UAE).
Required
BIM Coordination:
* Modelling and design oversight: coordinate the development, management, and implementation of the BIM models for the mixed-use project, ensuring alignment with the project design intent and client specifications and information requirements.
* Collaborative coordination: establish collaboration protocols and documentation to facilitate coordination and collaboration between architecture, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), structural engineering, and contractor teams using BIM software (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD).
* Clash detection and resolution: lead the clash detection and resolution process using the necessary tools (software, clash reports, resolution processes, etc.) to identify and resolve potential conflicts between different design disciplines.
* Quality assurance: ensure that the BIM models are accurate, up to date, and meet the project’s standards and client specifications and information requirements.
* Data management: ensure proper management of all BIM-related data and documentation, including version control, model updates, and file sharing between project stakeholders.
* Reporting and documentation: produce regular BIM reports, progress updates, and visualisations for stakeholders to track design and construction progress.
* BIM standards and protocols: establish and enforce BIM standards, guidelines, and protocols across the project team to ensure consistency and accuracy in data handling and model development.
GIS Coordination:
* Geospatial data integration: manage the integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) data with the BIM models, ensuring that geospatial context is fully considered in the project design.
* Site analysis: work with the urban planning and design teams to incorporate site-specific geographic information (topography, zoning, environmental features, utilities) into the BIM model.
* Mapping and visualisation: create, manage, and update maps and spatial visualisations to assist in design and planning decisions.
* Collaboration with GIS team: coordinate with GIS specialists to ensure that geographic data is appropriately captured, updated, and applied to the project’s design and construction plans.
* Environmental and regulatory compliance: assist in ensuring that the project complies with local zoning laws, environmental regulations, and other geographic considerations through GIS analysis and modelling.
Coordination:
* Cross-disciplinary communication: act as a liaison between the BIM and GIS teams and other disciplines, ensuring clear communication and efficient workflows across departments.
* Technology integration: oversee the integration of BIM and GIS technologies, ensuring smooth interoperability between different software platforms and tools (e.g., Revit, ArcGIS, QGIS).
* Stakeholder engagement: collaborate with stakeholders such as project managers, architects, engineers, and government agencies to ensure project requirements and expectations are met.
* Progress monitoring: track the progress of both BIM and GIS implementation, ensuring milestones are met, and report on any risks or delays to the project team.
* Team support: provide training and technical support for BIM and GIS tools, ensuring the project team is well-equipped to work with digital and geographic data.
Desirable skills and qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, or related field.
* BIM certification (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional, BIM Manager Certification).
* GIS certification (e.g., GIS Professional (GISP), Esri Technical Certification).
* Experience in BIM and/or GIS coordination, preferably within large architectural or mixed-use projects.
* Experience with BIM software (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD) and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
* Knowledge of both BIM and GIS integration, including workflows and data exchange between the two systems.
* Proficiency in BIM software (e.g., Autodesk Revit, Navisworks) and in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
* Strong understanding of building systems and design processes.
* Familiarity with geospatial data analysis, mapping, and visualisation techniques.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly with regard to data coordination and conflict resolution.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience with software integrations between BIM and GIS (e.g., linking GIS data to Revit models).
* Familiarity with construction management and scheduling tools (e.g., Procore, Primavera).
* Knowledge of building codes, zoning laws and environmental regulations.
