We are looking for a General Manager to join our team at Lothian. The main purpose of this role will be to provide strategic and tactical direction for all aspects of the operations in one of our City Garages and to ensure that operational excellence and continual improvement is delivered together with achieving and exceeding all budgetary, contractual and legal requirements. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Work with the Head of Operations and other Senior Business Leaders to set, develop and deliver the strategic direction of Lothian. • Operate all services to the standard of quality and compliance required by the business, ensuring the cost-effective and timely allocation, utilisation and performance of all staff and other garage resources. • Ensure the management of staff is carried out to the appropriate company and legal standards, whilst maintaining maximum performance outputs and harmonious employee and union relations. • Act as a visible and credible leader for the business unit to ensure effective communication and engagement with staff at all levels. • Manage all aspects of financial performance, including annual and periodic forecasting processes and ensure that performance is within agreed financial parameters. • Produce an annual budget with re-forecasting taking place as required to monitor garage performance. • Undertake annual appraisals of operational management teams and manage performance issues as required. • Take responsibility for local negotiation and consultation with garage-based trade union representatives. • Monitor garage performance against agreed KPIs used to inform business decisions and take appropriate remedial action where necessary highlighting relevant issues to the Head of Operations as required. • Ensure that all employees within the garage operate safe systems of work and have due regard to the safety of themselves, fellow employees and the public at all times. • Ensure that the company’s Health & Safety policies and procedures are communicated, observed and complied with at all times. • Build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders and partners COMPETENCIES AND POST HOLDER REQUIREMENTS: • Possess a comprehensive and up to date knowledge and understanding of all current industry legislative requirements. • Have an awareness of the relevant Traffic Commissioner, DVSA, HSE and other key regulatory and stakeholder standards and requirements. • Be safety focussed with experience of oversight of Health and Safety in the transport industry • Have experience in the role of Transport Manager and an understanding of O Licence obligations • Have experience of overseeing and managing compliance through robust auditing processes • Have a people centric approach to management. • Have a track record of motivating and developing others as well as building high performing teams • Be focussed on problem solving with experience of managing projects and a track record of meeting deadlines • Have experience and competence in analysing and interpreting data • Have excellent presentations skills, and be fully competent with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other business intelligence tools such as Power Bi • Display a flexible approach to management QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: • Holder of Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers in Passenger Transport is required.
