We are seeking an aspiring team leader with knowledge of private sector housing functions, related legislation, and codes of practice. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of HHSRS and HMO management regulations, with experience in managing a team of inspectors advantageous but not essential.
Applicants must have a qualification in building construction, environmental health, or a similar regulatory function. They must also have excellent communication, organisational, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Working knowledge of HHSRS is essential.
Responsibilities
1. Managing the daily work of a team of eight inspectors.
2. Managing basic staffing functions such as leave requests and expenditures.
3. Supervising and mentoring staff.
4. Utilizing financial and physical resources effectively.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will be able to interpret and implement appropriate legislation, codes of practice, and policies, acting as a leader and supporting guide to inspecting officers. They will have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team and on their own initiative, using advising, guiding, persuading, influencing, and conciliation skills.
Physical skills required include keyboard and IT skills including Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as the ability to travel around the borough. The successful candidate must have the initiative and independence to manage a team with allocated caseloads and assess situations to make decisions or give advice based on an assessment.
Emotional demands include managing difficult and upset customers and stakeholders. The candidate must be able to oversee detailed on-site inspections and quality control subsequent reports to comply with divisional policies, procedures, and legislation, while dealing with conflicting demands and conflict resolution.
The role may occasionally require working in disagreeable, uncomfortable, and hazardous working conditions. There may also be occasional unsocial hours working.
The role requires the candidate to establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and contacts external to the organisation, seek, evaluate, and organize information for action, exchange information to solve problems and make decisions, and carry out additional duties agreed with the appropriate manager.
Qualifications
* Possession of a HNC or higher qualification relevant to the enforcement of private sector housing legislation.
Hours
37 hours per week.
