Job Title: Senior Support Worker - Learning Disabilities
Job Overview:
As a Senior Support Worker specialising in caring for children with learning disabilities, you will assume a leadership role within the residential care team, overseeing the shift, supervising other staff members, and actively contributing to the development of the team. Your primary focus will be on providing high-quality care, support, and guidance to enhance the well-being and development of each child under your care. Working closely with the management team, you will play a key role in fostering a positive and inclusive environment that promotes independence, growth, and a sense of belonging for children with diverse learning needs.
Responsibilities:
1. Shift Leadership: Take on the responsibility of leading shifts, ensuring that all activities and tasks are completed effectively and in accordance with care plans and organisational policies. Provide guidance and support to staff members during shifts, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.
2. Supervision of Staff: Supervise and support other support workers, providing guidance, feedback, and coaching to help them excel in their roles. Conduct regular supervision sessions with staff members to review performance, set goals, and identify areas for development.
3. Team Development: Actively contribute to the development of the care team by sharing knowledge, skills, and best practices. Facilitate training sessions and team meetings to promote continuous learning and professional growth. Mentor and support new staff members to ensure they are fully integrated into the team.
4. Personalised Care: Provide individualised care and support tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of each child with learning disabilities. Lead by example in delivering high-quality care, demonstrating compassion, empathy, and professionalism in all interactions.
5. Supportive Environment: Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive living environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and social development of children with learning disabilities. Collaborate with other team members to implement innovative strategies and interventions to enhance the quality of care and support provided.
6. Communication: Foster effective communication and build positive relationships with children, their families, and other stakeholders, maintaining open lines of communication to address concerns and ensure continuity of care. Serve as a liaison between staff members and management, conveying important information and feedback as needed.
7. Individualised Planning: Participate in the development and implementation of individualised care plans and support strategies in collaboration with the child, their family, and other professionals involved in their care. Ensure that care plans are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the changing needs and preferences of each child.
8. Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and interests of children with learning disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met in all aspects of their lives. Work collaboratively with other professionals and external agencies to access additional support and resources as needed.
9. Safeguarding: Be vigilant in identifying and responding to signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, following established protocols and procedures for safeguarding children's welfare. Report any concerns promptly and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in your care.
Qualifications:
* Previous experience working with children with learning disabilities or related fields required.
* Proven leadership skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and engage effectively with children, families, and colleagues.
* Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children with diverse needs.
* Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Children and Young People's Workforce.
* Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in supporting individuals with learning disabilities.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
* Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
* Relevant certifications or training in areas such as first aid, medication administration, and safeguarding may be required.
