Job summary A Practice Nurse plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in a GP surgery. They support the primary care team in providing preventative care, treatment, and health education while working within agreed protocols and guidelines. The role requires clinical expertise, patient engagement, and collaboration with GPs, healthcare assistants, and other healthcare professionals. Main duties of the job Provide general nursing care including wound dressings, removal of sutures, and injections. Administer childhood and adult vaccinations in line with NHS immunisation schedules. Manage and review long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, and hypertension. Conduct cervical cytology (smear tests) following NHS screening guidelines. Perform health screenings and NHS health checks for eligible patients. Provide family planning and sexual health advice, including contraception services. Carry out ear irrigation, ECGs, and spirometry as required. Support the management of infection control and clinical waste disposal.
