We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Development Engineer to join our lens design and metrology team where you will develop new and novel lens designs for testing both in-vivo and in-vitro, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance. You will interact with R&D personnel, regulatory teams, manufacturing and their support function. You will also need to communicate with 3 rd parties such as suppliers, contractors or other development partners. Essential responsibilities: To participate in the design, development and verification of new products, making use of appropriate design software (either bespoke or third party) and data analysis tools/models where required. To identify new methods of product metrology, and improve existing methods and techniques, to guide product development and process control. Ensure that new and existing metrology methods and Design Verification testing and reports comply to regulatory requirements. To support the development of products and processes in manufacturing throughout their lifecycle at acceptable cost, volume and quality performance levels through the production of new tooling designs. To assist in the identification of improvement areas and to improve accordingly using a data driven approach. To liaise with customers, vendors and outside technical resources. To train manufacturing and R&D technical staff in the use of equipment as the business requires. This can be across all shifts and include manufacturing sites worldwide. Design of experiments, data analysis and reporting. To include hands-on management of trials. To identify and implement suitable new technology, both from inside and outside the direct contact lens environment. Writing of technical reports. Writing of verification and validation protocols and reports. To ensure that the Company’s Health & Safety policy and procedures are adhered to. To report any hazards or concerns to the relevant department manager and to make recommendations for improvement. To ensure all staff use the protective equipment provided and follow laid down safety procedures. Keeping the workplace clean and tidy at all times To ensure the Quality Policy is understood and actions are consistent with the policy To ensure all Standard Operating Procedures are understood and followed and Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP) are maintained Understand and implement the ‘Change Control’ procedures ensuring all procedures are kept up to date. To be aware of relevant product related defects. To accurately and fully complete all data entries onto the process records. What are we looking for? We would like you to have the following experience: Engineer with process optimisation and process scale up with experience in a Medical Device or Pharmaceutical or Food, Cosmetics company Worked within Research and Development or Process or Manufacturing teams Optimised processes for volume manufacturing Experience of in line process control methods Someone with exposure to liquid processing would be highly advantageous Experience providing technical input to multi-functional projects Ability to use technical knowledge to develop industrial processes and product design Strong analytical skills / use of statistical methods and software tools (e.g. VB, Matlab). Effective communicator with the ability to communicate across all levels. Strong problem solving skills (e.g. Six Sigma/DMAIC approach). Good presentation and report writing skills. What do we offer?
