About the Role
The ideal candidate will have experience in architectural design and department management, particularly within the Education Sector, delivering to the Department for Education project standards.
This role offers an opportunity to lead significant projects as TGE continues to grow its portfolio within the Education and MMC market.
As a Senior Architect / Technologist, you will oversee all phases of design and construction information, collaborating with the existing team of experienced architects and engineers and reporting to the Technical Director.
About You
An ambitious Architect / Technologist who is keen to flourish in a busy environment. You will have both design and technical skills and a strong eye for detail. A working knowledge of BIM will be an advantage and an interest in passive design and sustainability will be considered as differentiating factors.
Your Skills and Experience
1. Registered with the ARB or chartered with CIAT with approximately 10 years post chartered experience working in the UK.
2. You will ideally have cross-sector experience, predominantly in the Education Sector, delivering to the DFE framework, but commercial and leisure experience is an advantage.
3. Experience of Drawing and delivering within BIM Level 2 workflows and Environment.
4. Experience in leading architectural project teams and managing and delivering multiple complex projects concurrently from inception to completion.
5. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex design concepts to a variety of audiences coupled with exceptional problem-solving skills and a dynamic "can do approach.".
6. Knowledge of other design software (Lumion, Photoshop, In-design, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office) is preferred.
7. Knowledge and understanding of NBS/Uniclass Specification software.
8. A knowledge of Passivhaus and timber Frame construction would be advantageous.
9. Demonstrate commercial awareness of design and construction processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supervise, mentor, and provide direction to all members of the architectural team.
2. Take receipt of a brief and with only limited intervention, manage the design process, from initial sketches to full detailed design in line with the RIBA Plan of Work.
3. Prepare compliant designs by following UK Construction Law, British Standards, and relevant CoPs.
4. Select and advise on material specification. Respect the limited availability of natural resources when making design decisions with consideration of design life and durability.
5. Author specifications. Source and evidence supporting and up-to-date technical information from manufacturers in your project folders.
6. Assist in gathering and preparing information to support statutory submissions, such as Planning, Building Regulations and Building Safety Gateways.
7. Contribute and help co-ordinate the development of TGE Pre-Construction Information in line with the RIBA Plan of Work and TGEs Deliverables and Design Risk Management.
8. Assist the Project Team with designing to a budget, and where required assist with value-engineering.
9. Participate in project review meetings and coordinate with members of the wider Design, Operations and Procurement Teams.
10. Undertake proper and sufficient checking of architectural information prior to forwarding to the Technical Director for approval.
11. Ensure compliance with Document Control in line with TGE Protocols.
