Salary: Grade 8 £40,476 - £44,711 (Bar at £43,693) per annum pro rata
Working Hours: 35 Hours per week

Our client has an exciting position for a Highways Development Control Engineer. Do you have the qualities to play a key role within the Highways Development Control team?
Our client provides the Highway Authority's response to all development proposals in Manchester as part of the Planning Process, ranging from a single property to major development proposals such as the Co-op Arena or the recently approved Central Retail Park Office Campus development. The team is central to protecting and maintaining highway interests, assessing development proposals, identifying highway alterations and liaising with developers throughout the planning, development and construction process.
This vacancy is for the role of Highways Development Control Engineer - you will provide specialist expertise to ensure that all developments are safe, accessible and work to mitigate against any impact on the highway network and its users.
The role covers a variety of activities which include:
* Managing a caseload of diverse planning applications including strategic major developments, providing high-quality technical responses and maintaining communication with the Planning Authority.
* Be a senior support to the team and point of reference for colleagues across Highways and the wider organisation.
* Undertake stakeholder support and influence/negotiation with both private and public clients, external stakeholders, including Transport for Greater Manchester and developers, supporting with the management of relationships, providing advice and feedback.
* Support fellow officers and support the Service in stakeholder relationships with Ward Members.
* Provide input into review/updates to local highway policies and technical guidance.
The ideal candidate
You will be a highly motivated and versatile individual with great analytical skills and the drive to make a significant contribution to the team. You will need significant experience of working within a Highways environment - with a background in Development Control including the review of/input into planning submissions either as a technical assessor or Transport & Highways Consultant/Planner.
You will need to have good computer skills along with experience of related software and strong knowledge of the relevant codes of practice, guidance documents and planning policy.
Our client is looking for individuals who also hold a minimum of HNC / Degree in a relevant Planning /Highways Engineering discipline. Chartered/Incorporated Engineer or Membership of a relevant Institution would be advantageous.

About the Candidate
You’ll be able to show that you have the knowledge and experience of undertaking a similar position within the industry, with particular emphasis on structural inspections, maintenance and asset management gained within either a Local Authority, Consultancy, or the Private sector. You will be able to contribute to our client’s service delivery and manage your own workload with minimal day-to-day supervision.
