Role Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to guide the NS & G BU, its teams and communities, and influence its senior customer stakeholders in how best to intercept and take advantage of technology evolution in terms of its impact on the market.
The role holder requires a depth of knowledge across multiple technology domains and understands the impact of these on NS & G performance, business strategy and delivery efficiency. The holder will understand and factor how technological change will impact future demand and the requirements this drives in terms of changes to the capability of the organisation
The role is accountable for the adoption and exploitation of technology in customer solutions as a key differentiator for the business.
The role requires a good understanding of technology in the industry and market sector, including competitor strategy, activity and latest leading edge industrial and academic developments.
The role must understand customer requirements within NS & G and works with the customer at the most senior level to influence their thinking and explain technology options and their implications and through this shapes our opportunity advantage.
At this level the role provides advice and guidance to the NS & G Leadership Team and exerts influence to ensure appropriate technologies are adopted.
Chartered Engineer status preferable but not mandatory

Role Accountabilities:
Apply leadership to ensure technology strategies, structures, processes, resources and research is in place to deliver current and future business strategies across all technology domains. Exert influence in the external environment to represent NS & G’s interests and orientate technology research and development to match business strategy and strategic requirements
Engages with technology leaders across Digital Intelligence, BAE Systems and in relevant external research organisations.
Accountable for the NS & G Technology and Services Strategy (as related to delivering business strategy) including the identification of opportunities for repeatable services or products which will serve to differentiate BAE Systems in the NS & G Market
Lead the successful development of business cases to enable the development of Products and Services to support NS & G business objectives.
Accountable for the portfolio of NS & G Products and Services and their development
Accountable for the development of NS & G Products and Services to meet the needs of Digital Intelligence.
Collaborate at business senior management team level such that technology impact is fully considered, understood and accounted for by the business management team through incorporation in business strategies
Influence business leaders including the business senior management team, Engineers and Account Directors
Maintain knowledge of home market technology base and identify key technologies for introduction into the business
Provide oversight and thought leadership (through design reviews, technical reviews and solution reviews) to the engineering activities undertaken in NS & G.
Foster a culture of Technology innovation among account teams in developing solutions to our customers challenge
Work with customers to build relationships and confidence in the business, develop and influence development of customer technology requirements and influence their adoption of company proposed solutions
Identify suitable external contacts, build, develop and maintain an external profile within the field and influence or guide technology development to suit the strategic aims and objectives of the business
Research and acquire solutions from outside the business, represent NS & G and technology in drafting new standards and regulations
Sign off engineering concepts and solutions which are considered to embody sufficient technology differentiation with acceptable or sufficiently mitigated technical risk and which are considered legally compliant
Be an inspirational thought-leader in the respective Engineering domain and enthuse the community toward its aims and aspirations;
Build productive working relationships with other areas of the business in order to maximise the visibility of NS & G to the wider organisation;
Develop and commission thought leadership outputs (blogs, white papers, conference presentations) Maintain and develop professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies;
Ensures compliance with regulatory, legal and professional standards.
Play an active role in business development activities, providing compelling collateral for bids and sales pitches and driving the engineering and technology direction for large bid responses.
Drive technology collaboration across Digital Intelligence as part of the senior Technology Community.
Relevant Experience:
* Engineering leadership of teams sizes of 30+ staff members.
* Engineering Leadership of different types of programme and project, including but not limited to: Delivery Partner, Build Partner, SIAM and Assurance, with a value of £10M+.
* Engineering Leadership of different types of bid/procurement work, including but not limited to: DOS, CCS Frameworks, GCloud, with a value of £10M+
* Engineering Leadership in client and supply side roles with clients similar to the NS & G clients which include: HO, FCDO, UKHSA, DfE, NR, NH, Met Office and MoJ.
* Requires a depth of knowledge across multiple technology domains and fully understands the impact of these on product performance, business strategy and future business performance
