Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Chorley, Lancashire
Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent
About Us: We are an independent school in Chorley, dedicated to providing education for boys and girls aged 6-16 years who have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and/or associated anxiety. Our mission is to engage children who have faced barriers to learning and experienced negative school experiences, offering a safe environment where their needs are understood, allowing them to rediscover their ability to learn and thrive.
Role Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support students with SEMH needs, helping them access a tailored curriculum designed to meet their individual learning requirements. You will work closely with teachers and the pastoral team to create a positive educational experience for our pupils.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with SEMH needs.
2. Support classroom activities, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
3. Foster positive relationships with students to encourage their personal and academic growth.
4. Collaborate with teachers and other staff to monitor and report on student progress.
5. Help manage classroom behavior in line with school policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
2. A relevant qualification in education or child development is advantageous.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children's education and well-being.
