Around 130 employees and contractors work at the Advanced Elastomer Systems (AES) plant in Newport, South Wales. AES has the capacity to produce over 100,000 tonnes of Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) annually which are marketed under the trademark Santoprene. TPEs are products that perform like rubber but can be processed with the speed, efficiency and economy of thermoplastics. In addition to simpler processing, the principal advantages of TPEs include easy recycling, closer control of dimensions and improved product quality vs thermoset rubber. Around 60% of Santoprene sales are to the automotive industry where it is used on car weather seals, under-bonnet applications and for interior parts. The versatile product is used by the construction industry, and for consumer goods such as flexible toothbrushes and grips for kitchen utensils. Santoprene is also used to make parts of medical devices such as vacutainers to take blood samples. As a maintenance department we are tasked with maintaining equipment throughout the plant in a safe and timely manner. For the Newport maintenance team we are currently looking for a Mechanical Technician Celanese are currently recruiting a Mechanical Technician to join our maintenance team here at the Advanced Elastomer Systems (AES) plant (formerly owned by ExxonMobil) in Newport, South Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced and varied engineering environment where we take pride in our safety performance. You will be maintaining the plant and equipment at one of Europe’s premier Thermoplastic Vulcanisate plants, which provides raw materials to the global automotive industry. A maintenance technician role will hold the following qualifications and attributes: Time served, mechanical trade-skilled person A good general education: As a minimum, grades A-C at GCSE level including Maths, English and one other Science/Technical subject Experience of pneumatic and hydraulic systems Ability to interpret engineering drawings & P&IDs Competent with workshop machinery Commitment to high standards in safety and quality of work Driven, motivated & committed to ownership and completing tasks Strong written and verbal communication Able to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment while making decisions focused on safety, quality, reliability & performance of the business High personal standards e.g. Safety, Trade skills, quality, schedule, housekeeping, maintenance of tools & equipment Positive attitude, wants to do the job and is committed to meeting plant business needs Flexible and willing to perform full range of tasks Self-sufficient and able to work individually or with minimum support from others Performs all work in a cost conscious manner making efficient use of resources Potential breakdowns and reliability improvements identified during the work are referred to his/her supervisor for consideration.
