As an orthoptic assistant you will play a crucial role making a difference in our patients' lives by being a first line of contact for patients or parents as well as other hospital and professional staff.
You will be responsible for:
1. Providing orthoptic administrative duties as well as clinical assessments in vision, colour vision, intraocular pressure, ophthalmic imaging, virtual glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmic clinics.
2. Providing administrative support to the Orthoptic and Ophthalmic Technician Team, including clinic coordination, timetabling, and procurement.
3. Being the first point of contact for patient, parent, and staff queries.
4. Line managing Band 3 ophthalmic technicians and supporting the Head Orthoptist and the Ophthalmic Technician Coordinator with managing staff leave, sickness cover, and general service provision.
5. Organising and facilitating meetings/training days, including minute taking.
6. Undertaking clinical duties under the direction of registered orthoptists and leading technician-led clinics.
7. Supporting the training and induction of new staff.
This post will include some Saturday work. Being able to work independently and within a team is essential for the role. Some of these clinics are offsite, and some Saturday working may be required.
