Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the daily management and motivation of all staff to ensure that the portering operations within the Hospital operate effectively.
2. Deploy portering staff across the hospital while awaiting jobs to assist departments.
3. Ensure effective delivery of the service and identify potential service enhancements or developments, planning for their effective implementation.
4. Ensure adequate portering staff coverage and manage absences by re-distribution of work or relief, ensuring cost-effective options for cover are used with senior management authorization for any additional costs.
5. Effectively manage the Electronic Porter Request System.
6. Ensure all staff comply with current Risk Management, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Security, and Fire Trust Policies, Procedures, and Protocols.
7. Ensure full compliance with the Trust Incident Reporting Policy and the Procedure for Investigating Incidents.
8. Assist the Support Services Manager when required.
9. Familiarize and follow the Trust's and Directorates Health and Safety Policy and procedures; be aware of individual responsibilities under legislation.
10. Bring management's attention to potential or actual risk and complete Datix Incidents.
11. Abide by and work to COSHH Regulations at all times.
12. Be flexible and undertake any or all duties identified, including shift changes at short notice and any requests from a Senior Manager.
13. Conduct daily inspections of the portering ambulance and complete the inspection checklist accordingly.
14. Manage the porter request system daily and ensure all equipment is returned at the end of each shift.
15. Undertake hospital site inspections throughout the shift, ensuring the hospital environment is clear of hazards and corridors are unobstructed.
16. Manage the day-to-day operational management of medical gas cylinder stocks, ensuring evidence-based systems for ordering, stock control, cylinder rotation, storage, and manual handling issues are in place.
17. Monitor the contract for the supply of medical gas and air cylinders, including twice-weekly checks on cylinder stocks and reporting any deficiencies to the Gas Supplier.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50, which will be deducted from your first Trust salary. Additionally, it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
