We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Production Operator to join us at Smiths Detection on site, at our UK Hemel Hempstead location. This position is part of a production team of 60 people, amongst the wider population of 250 employees across other functions, based at the Hemel site.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical assembly and/or testing of a range of product types as part of a production team which manufactures high-quality electronic components and finished products.

The candidate must work well within a team environment and possess the ability to work independently. What you'll do -
* Perform assembly and/or testing of sub-assemblies, final assemblies, and small/miniature assemblies by following written work instructions, schematic diagrams, and production testing procedures.
* Check the quality of own work produced in accordance with Smiths Detection quality standards before handing the unit off to the next production cycle.
* Contribute to troubleshooting and continuous improvement of production tasks and processes.
* Perform relevant tests and other processes as part of the defined production workflow.
* Assist the production team with other assembly work as required.
* Comply with and promote all relevant legal requirements & Smiths policies and procedures, including business ethics, data protection, and health & safety.
Qualifications:
* 2+ years of experience in an engineering production environment.
* Experience working with a range of manual tools e.g., wire strippers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, crimping tools, and power screwdrivers, and working from production process documents, drawings, and other associated production documents.
* Strong attention to detail and demonstrable fine manual dexterity.
* Aptitude for mechanical work, including understanding and following written production process documents and drawings.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including a flexible approach to performing all types of assembly work based on customer demand.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* For a testing role, ability to perform diagnostics on tested equipment and provide appropriate solutions for resolution.
* Demonstrable proficiency in soldering, wire crimping, and use of tools such as screwdrivers, multimeters, and power screwdrivers.
* Diagnostics ability to problem-solve effectively.
* Experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
* Good standard of general education.
