Job title: Design and Estimating Engineer

Reports to: Design and Estimating Team Leader
Salary: Up to £40, per annum
The Role
The role of the Design and Estimating Engineer is to design and cost complex fire, life safety, electronic security systems and network infrastructure. You will be responsible for reviewing client/tender specification documents and drawings, liaising with suppliers, using CAD software for the detailed design, costing the projects and drafting proposal documents. You will work collaboratively with various departments, our clients, consultants, suppliers and colleagues, in order to ensure internal & external deadlines are met and that projects are accurately designed & costed.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Progressing sales enquiries and tenders' requirements by working closely with Business Development Managers to ensure that customer requirements are understood
2. Designing various life safety and security systems plus any other integrated building systems as specified within the Company's scope of work based upon customer requirements, specifications, drawings, and current standards
3. Preparing proposals, quotations and tender documents and ensuring they are prepared on time and in line with company standards
4. Assessing the risk factors influencing the security and fire design, to either enhance accordingly or to communicate back to the client
5. Ensuring all quotations and system design specifications are compatible with the requirements of all applicable technical and regulatory standards and Codes of Practice
6. Adhering to all Company policies and procedures
7. Ensuring handovers and deadlines are achieved
8. Reviewing changes in customers' specifications and modifying designs accordingly

Person Specification
Essential
9. Good working knowledge of fire, security or network infrastructure products and systems and their features/limitations
10. Previous design and estimating experience, including the ability to prepare cost sheets and proposal documents
11. Good verbal and written communication skills
12. Excellent interpersonal skills
13. Experience of reading and publishing specifications and technical drawings
14. Excellent organisational and time management skills
15. Excellent attention to detail
Desirable
16. Proficient in the use of the latest AutoCAD and/or Revit packages
17. Current knowledge of technologies, technical and regulatory standards, which are relevant to the design process
18. Previous installation or commissioning experience within a relevant sector
19. Knowledge of European regulatory standards
20. Proficiency in a European language is desirable but not essential

Working Conditions
The role is based in an open plan office environment with multi-screen computer use. On occasion the role may require support at our other offices and onsite at customers' sites for design meetings.
