The Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust Radiography service is offering a fantastic opportunity to join the imaging team as MRI Superintendent, leading our dedicated team of Radiographers and Support Workers. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly experienced MR Radiographer to influence the way the service is delivered to our patients.
In your role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the MRI service and be able to advise on MRI related matters. Candidates will have extensive experience in carrying out MR examinations in the NHS and be able to evidence their management experience. You will lead and support the team in providing high quality diagnostic MR imaging and lead in the provision of new examinations and techniques that support patient pathways.
The Trust imaging service is supported by a Community Diagnostic Centre, managed by Inhealth. This includes MRI scanning and the successful candidate will have a key role in liaising with the CDC team to ensure the best care for our patients.
Main duties of the job
This role is responsible for the MRI service and is accountable to the Radiology Directorate Manager and Clinical Service Lead.
1. Provide leadership in operational management, ensuring high standards of practice and patient care in the MRI services of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT).
2. Responsible for maintaining an environment conducive to delivering and maintaining high-quality, patient-centred care, fostering effective communication and relationships between all levels of TSDFT staff, patients, relatives, and visitors.
3. Proactively support and strengthen the roles of the MRI Radiographer Team, being visible and accessible at all times when on duty. Focus areas include optimising MRI workflows, ensuring service efficiency, and coordinating patient pathways for timely imaging, including working with external providers where necessary.
4. To be aware of the performance, quality and financial position of the service and in liaison with the senior leadership team, ensure good budgetary control, ensuring efficient use of resources and contributing to service development and improvements.
5. Supervise and be responsible for a team of MRI Radiographers, Radiology Support Workers who are rostered to the service, and student/apprentice Radiographers, and other trainees as required.
About us
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust's Diagnostic Imaging Department carries out in excess of 200,000 Radiological examinations per annum. We work in an integrated way with allied health care professionals within the locality, and are a motivated and caring team to both patients and colleagues.
The MRI service has 2 scanners, a Siemens Aera and Siemens Sola, both sited in Torbay DGH. The Trust also works in partnership with Inhealth who also host a Siemens MRI in the local CDC. TSDFT receives around 22,000 referrals per annum. The service provides a wide range of MRI exams including Cardiac MRI.
Our Radiology services are provided across 4 sites: Torbay DGH and 3 community sites:
* Newton Abbot - X Ray and Ultrasound
* Dawlish and Totnes - X Ray only
The Radiology revenue budget is in excess of £8 million per annum that includes:
* Pay budget in excess of £6 million per annum
* Non-pay budget of £2 million per annum
Our team consists of:
* 88 WTE Radiographers/Ultrasonographers/Healthcare Scientists and Apprentices across all modalities
* 22 WTE Admin and Clerical Staff
Torbay DGH has the following modalities:
* 4 X Ray rooms
* 2 Fluoroscopy rooms
* 8 US rooms, 3 general and 5 maternity/women's health
* 3 CT Scanners
* 2 MR Scanners
* NM SPECT Scanner
* Hybrid Interventional Theatre
* Various digital mobile X Ray machines and fluoroscopy units
