Technical Manager Location: Ultrapharm, Pontypool Shift: Weekdays, Full Time on site Salary: Competitive with opportunity for growth We have an exciting opportunity to join our Team as a Technical Manager at our Ultrapharm site as part of Finsbury Food Group. Ultrapharm is a dedicated Gluten Free bakery specialising in only Gluten Free products since 1993. The company’s unique approach to craft and baking creates premium gluten-free products with the flavour and taste of traditional bread. If you have special dietary needs or nutritional preferences, then our Pontypool bakery is for you. Our products range from artisanal bread to our award-winning Hot Cross Buns and Mince Pies for major retailers such as M&S and Waitrose. The Technical Manager role is to ensure the technical integrity of Ultrapharm, providing governance and leadership across the business so that technical standards are met. The role will accountable for food safety legality and quality and be responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the technical department. To be successful in this role, the Technical Manager will have worked in a similar leadership technical position with the food manufacturing sector. They will have customer facing experience as they will work directly with and build relationships with key retailers including M&S, Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s. Good stakeholder management and clear communication skills are essential as this is a fast-paced role where they will need to adapt quickly to influence at all levels, achieve KPIs and manage unannounced audits. This role is a pivotal part of the site leadership team, offering opportunity for progression within the larger group. This is what you will actually do In this busy role as Technical Manager you will be a vital part of the Technical team and will be responsible for ensuring all food safety, quality and legality of all products manufactured on site whilst also ensuring all technical manufacturing processes comply with relevant internal standards and those set by customer and regulatory authorities, working in conjunction with colleagues in Process, Development and Operations to establish and improve procedures, standards, and systems. Part of the role will be to manage customer and third-party audits to achieve and maintain accreditation standards, BRC A grade, customer green or higher audit standards, act as key contact with customers and potential customers in all technical issues including driving improvement plans, implementing outputs from risk assessments and retailer codes of practice. You will be required to lead by example in encouraging appropriate behavioural standards in support of the company’s values and culture, coaching employees in the implementation and training of technical standards, systems, and procedures. You will be required to utilise best practice from around the business and outside bodies to influence and implement within the Pontypool site for continuous improvement purposes. Ideally this is you Ideally educated to Degree or HND level in food science or science/technology related discipline or Technical Management experience gained from the food industry role involving customer contact and team management/supervision Level 3 Food Safety & Level 3 HACCP (minimum) Experience of working within a technical team and cross functionally with other departments including Operations, Engineering, Hygiene, Supply Chain, NPD & HR Excellent communication skills and able to communicate clear strategies and plans internally and with customers High quality/food safety standards.
