Overview
A global charity dedicated to improving the welfare of working animals and the communities that rely on them. Are looking to recruit a Head of Policy and Advocacy professional to join the charity.
Operating across multiple regions, we reach millions of animals and people each year through direct support, advocacy, and sustainable health initiatives.
As Head of Policy and Advocacy (HPA) will lead the charity’s efforts to influence policies that protect working animals. This includes advocating for a global ban on the animal trade, strengthening animal welfare laws, and ensuring working equids are recognised in local, national, and international policies.
You will work closely with advocacy teams across our country programmes, governments, and key partners to ensure our work has a lasting impact. By scaling up successful initiatives and driving policy change, this role plays a key part in improving the lives of working equids and the people who depend on them.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and lead the organisation’s policy and advocacy strategy.
* Influence policies at national and international levels to protect working equids.
* Build strong relationships with governments, policymakers, and partner organisations.
* Oversee advocacy campaigns that push for legislative change.
* Provide leadership to the Policy and Advocacy Team, supporting their growth and effectiveness.
* Use research and evidence to strengthen advocacy efforts and extend our influence.
Skills and Experience Required
* Proven Policy Influence and Impact: A strong track record of shaping and influencing policies, particularly at a global level, with demonstrable success in driving meaningful change.
* Engagement with Key Stakeholders: Extensive experience working with governments, international institutions, and decision-makers, with the ability to navigate complex political and regulatory environments.
* Strategic Advocacy and Campaigning: Skilled in developing and delivering advocacy campaigns that lead to measurable policy shifts and tangible improvements in animal welfare and related sectors.
* Leadership and Team Management: Experience in leading and managing teams, providing strategic direction, and supporting the professional growth of colleagues to maximise collective impact.
* Exceptional Communication and Negotiation Skills: A confident and persuasive communicator, able to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, influence high-level discussions, and represent the organisation effectively on national and international platforms.
