The Tool Maker (Hourly) works from specifications such as blueprints, sketches, developmental prototypes, and verbal descriptions as well as operate and write CNC programs for computerized numerical control machine tools and all other manually operated associated machine tool equipment such as boring, milling, lathes, and internal/external surface and cutter grinders.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models
* Prepare templates and sketches, and determine work processes
* Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools
* Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining
* Set up, operate and maintain a variety of conventional and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, drill, bore, grind or otherwise shape workpiece to prescribed dimensions and finish
* Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as verniers, callipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and electronic measuring devices
* Fit and assemble or disassemble parts using hand tools
* Test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation
* May program CNC machine tools
* Mechanical experience supporting manufacturing operations including knowledge and troubleshooting
* Experience in preventative maintenance including replacing broken or defective parts in equipment or machines, mechanical equipment, and tooling

Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
* Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
* Certificate of Apprenticeship as a Tool/Tooling Maker (630T), Tool and Die Maker (430A), or General Machinist (429A)
* Certificate of Qualification as a Tool/Tooling Maker (630T), Tool and Die Maker (430A), or General Machinist (429A)
* Minimum EIGHT (8) years of related experience working in the trade
* Experience with routine maintenance operations
* Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
* Ability to maintain tact and professionalism at all times
* Proficiency with computers, including the use of Microsoft Office
* Available to work all shifts
* Legally authorized to work in Canada
