Why is this role important and how does it fit into the team, department and wider firm?
Delivering a first class claims handling, resolution and management service for a market leading professional indemnity insurer. You will resolve claims efficiently and fairly and in a manner that promotes our insurer client’s brand values.
What does the role actually involve?
1. Investigating the nature of the professional liability claim, determining insurance policy coverage and setting strategy for resolution and insurer’s “reserves” based on the most likely outcome
2. Liaising closely with insureds and their insurance broker in accordance with our insurer client’s brand values in order to forge strong commercial relationships
3. Working closely with lawyers in our Financial & Professional Risks team and escalating matters as appropriate with our insurer client
4. Updating computer and paper records with details of the claim
5. Keeping the insured and broker informed both verbally and in writing of the status of the claim in accordance with client service level agreements
6. Carry out claims management proactively and efficiently
7. Undertaking any other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post
What technical skills are required for someone to be successful and enjoy the role?
8. Familiarity with Microsoft office including Word, Excel and Outlook
9. Advanced keyboard skills and the ability to produce own correspondence and documentation
10. Professional indemnity experience, especially handling solicitors claims
11. Experienced in dealing with claims handling (pre-litigation) aspects of a file
12. Previous experience of defending insurance claims
13. Previous experience of dealing with claims in an FCA regulated environment would be an advantage but is not essential

Who would be a good fit for this role?
As part of the Finance and Professional Risk team, you would be expected to have the following skills and experience:
14. Degree (or insurance qualifications) preferred
15. Strong legal and analytical skills in order to be able to assess the merits of any claim and understand the liabilities of insured clients
16. The ability to work efficiently and methodically in order to effectively manage your caseload, and use own initiative
17. A willingness and ability to learn given that the law changes on a daily basis and keeping abreast of new case law and ground breaking decisions gives us an advantage when defending claims

19. Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in taking decisions
