PURPOSE OF ROLE – Vehicle Mechanic
Responsible for the diagnostic testing, servicing, and repairs of Commercial & Military vehicles.
The role will suit individuals currently working as an HGV Mechanic Fitter, Automotive / Mechanical Fitter, Specialist Vehicle Mechanic, Car Mechanic, or Fitter. Useful, but not essential, would be working knowledge of military vehicles, processes, and FMT 932 inspection criteria.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Inspection and Test of vehicle status to assess overall condition of vehicle.
* Strip, replace / repair units in accordance with work instructions.
* Assess individual components to ensure they are fit for purpose.
* Build and test product in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
* Report any faults to the Workshop Supervisor who will advise what action is needed.
GENERAL
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to be flexible and work outside core hours on occasion.
* Travel to other Exsel group sites and occasional overseas travel may be required.
* Must be able to work in the UK without restrictions & meet UK government security vetting criteria.
HEALTH & SAFETY
* Adhere to all relevant Health and safety procedures and observe safe working practices. All work to be conducted in a safe manner.
* Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to be used when required.
* All tools and equipment are to be cleared away at the end of a task and work area cleared up before the end of working day.
* All hand tools (if used) are to be maintained in a safe usable condition.
* To advise advanced Technician, team leader or line manager of any Health & Safety issues promptly.
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
* The job holder will require a valid driving licence.
* Excellent understanding principles of vehicle mechanics.
* Knowledge of engineering technology.
* Manual dexterity.
* Good physical fitness and stamina.
* Customer service skills.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
* Attention to detail.
KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
* Proven experience of repair & maintenance on Commercial vehicles, HGV / Construction Equipment / Heavy Plant and/or military vehicle experience preferred but not essential.
