About us:
GORSE has a well-known reputation for changing the deal for children and young adults who come from some of the most impoverished parts of the country. Our central mission is to ensure that we play a significant role in removing the stubborn link between poverty and academic underperformance. Consequently, our students and our professionals are in the vanguard of the national drive which seeks to prove that where teaching is excellent, leadership inspiring and behaviour standards exemplary all children excel regardless of background.
Our 15 academies, our central team, our Teaching School Hub and GORSE SCITT work in a tightknit manner which sees our students prospering as a result of great partnership. Our professionals recognise the enormous advantage that comes from belonging to a network of excellence and we as a trust recognise that there is much to be gained when great organisations work with integrity, moral purpose and determination. The Gorse Boat Club is open to every student.
The Trust is targeting success at National Schools and Henley Royal Regatta. Rowing is a priority sport at GORSE, and this singular focus, together with our large talent pool, makes us one of the most exciting new programmes in junior rowing.
Rowing is now established in all secondary academies and colleges. Until now, GORSE’s rowing programme has been comprised of mainly indoor rowing delivered through the curriculum and after-school clubs. With the opening of our new boathouse this Autumn, we will start the process of progressing our students to the water. We want you to help us realise their potential.
We are blessed with one of the best stretches of water anywhere in the UK. Situated adjacent to Lemonroyd Lock, the new boathouse is just 20 minutes from the centre of Leeds yet set in the city’s green belt. On one side is 1,750m of dead-straight canal; on the other is 10km of quiet, unbroken river. Our fully equipped boathouse and brand-new fleet will provide 64 seats in this first phase of our growth plan. Together with over 150 rowing machines and well-stocked gyms across all academies, there are no excuses.
