Reporting Structure: Your named employer will be the Client’s Financial Deputy. You will be managed by and responsible to the Client’s Case Manager.
Introduction: This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and flexible individual to support a family in caring for their 11-year-old child with cerebral palsy. He has associated complex care needs, a lovely character, and a cheerful outlook on life. You will be involved in many therapeutic and social activities, requiring a positive, imaginative, and fun approach.
You will have the opportunity to develop your skills while contributing to his therapy programme, as many therapies will be included in day-to-day care activities. You will undertake a range of duties to support him, working closely with other team members to provide the highest standards of care, supported by a team of professionals.
Working in a busy family home, you will need to be sensitive to the needs and boundaries of the family, supporting his Mum and Dad in maintaining their structure and values while being conscious of the needs of his siblings and the wider family. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Full training will be given to those with the right approach and attitude.
The post requires independent work and conducting yourself in a manner acceptable to the employer. Reliability, integrity, and complete trustworthiness are essential attributes. The post covers evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays, as well as night duty.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Specific:
* Maintaining all aspects of personal care including:
* Washing/Bathing
* Dressing
* Teeth cleaning
* Nail Care
* Continence care
* Maintaining nutrition and facilitating general health
* Maintaining physical and postural management
* Supporting therapeutic programmes
* Supporting a toilet training programme
* Providing appropriate therapeutic and leisure activities in the home, school, and wider community
* Checking and cleaning of equipment
* Driving the child’s vehicle
* Taking and collecting the child to and from school
* Accompanying the child on family holidays as required
* Maintaining the child’s safety in all environments
* Attending care team review meetings
* Some cleaning, laundry, food preparation, and other domestic tasks as required by the client’s family.
General:
* Promote, monitor, and maintain health, safety, and security in the workplace.
* Promote effective communication and relationships.
* Establish and maintain a trusting, therapeutic, working relationship with client and family.
* Be responsible for the client's personal welfare.
* Travel to hospitals or elsewhere for therapeutic care.
* Liaise with other agencies as required.
* Complete daily records as advised including; time sheets, daily record sheets, medication sheets, petty cash sheets, and critical incidents.
* Attend review meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer.
* Attend training sessions as arranged.
