Newton Place Surgery is looking to employ a skilled and compassionate Pharmacy Technician to join ourteam.
This is a full timeposition, but we may consider a job share for the right candidates.

Main duties of the job
Pharmacy technicians core role responsibilities will cover clinical, and technical and administrative categories. The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe, cost-effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care. The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practice, including promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for encouraging the development of better understanding of the principles of medicines optimisation throughout the practice teams and promoting good practice in line with therapeutic Pharmacy Technicians must work within their competencies and have professional indemnity for their role.

Newton PlaceSurgery is a vibrant purpose-built surgery, set in the beautiful market villageof Faversham. The practice has good transportation links, being less than 1mile from Faversham train station and close to the M2 turn-off.
We offer a varietyof additional on-site services such as ultrasound, audiology, physiotherapy,women's health, minor surgery, ECGs, and spirometry and we are also a covidvaccination site. We also have an offsite ophthalmology service. The practiceis actively involved in research and is a training practice.

Job responsibilities
Main duties and responsibilities of the role are:
1. Provide support to the prescription team to resolve day to day medicineissues.
2. Assisting and advising clinicians of alternative medicines when notifieditems are unavailable.
3. Ensure MHRA alerts are acted upon and to provide advice on medication changes.Ensuring dissemination of the information to the wider clinical team.
4. Completing audits around patient safety.
5. Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensureeffective medicines use through shared decision-making conversations withpatients
6. Conduct medicine optimisation tasks including effective medicineadministration (, checking inhaler technique), support medication reviewsand medicines reconciliation. When required, utilise consultation skills towork in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicineseffectively
7. Support, as determined by the organisation, medication reviews andmedicines reconciliation for new care home patients and synchronise medicinesfor patient transfers between care settings and linking with local communitypharmacists
8. Provide specialist expertise, when competent, to address both the publichealth and social care needs of patients including lifestyle advice, serviceinformation and help in tackling local health inequalities
9. Provide training and support on the legal, safe and secure handling ofmedicines, including the implementation of the Electronic Prescription Service(EPS).
10. Promotion of Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and online orderingDevelop relationships with other pharmacy professionals and members of themultidisciplinary team to support integration across health and social careincluding primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care and mental health
11. Create, review and disseminate protocols when needed.
12. Manage shared care protocols and liaise with Clinical Pharmacistsfor more complex patients. Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship toreduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing locally. 13. Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation and managementincentive schemes and patient safety audits
14. Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidancewithin GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings. This will beachieved through undertaking clinical audits (, use of antibiotics),supporting quality improvement measures and contributing to the Quality andOutcomes Framework and enhanced services
15. Attend a formal appraisal with your manager at least every 12 months.Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewedon a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
16. Assist with the investigation of complaints when required.
17. Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk
18. Contribute to public health campaigns (, COVID-19 or flu clinics)through advice or direct care

Experience
Essential
20. Is working under appropriate clinical supervision to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of medicines
21. Experience working in a primary care setting
22. Understanding and knowledge of healthcare provision in GP practices, QOF and enhanced services
Desirable
23. An appreciation of the new NHS landscape including the relationships between individual practices, PCNs and the commissioners
24. Good clinical system IT knowledge of EMIS

30. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
